“Jan tried to force a smile. “It’s just that as a mother, I worry, y’know?”
Ron admired her small, thin figure. Her black hair was starting to turn gray and Ron thought that made her more attractive.
For being a single, working mother in her late thirties, Dr. Brighton was quite a success story. That scared Ron sometimes.
“I get it,” he said. “Thanks for not adding ‘Wait until you are a mother’.”
“Aw, you already are a mother, Ron.”
They both laughed.
Why do I even open my mouth some days, Ron asked himself. I shouldn’t have brought up scouts. She probably hates me for mentioning it.
