Patrick turned and leaned outside the tent with his flashlight aimed at the tree. Something had climbed the tree.

Something big.

Something fast.

Something that growled.

Try as he might, Patrick couldn’t get his light clearly on the thing. It scampered higher into the treetop and the light seemed to go through it.

“Fine by me”, he said. Patrick reclined on the top of his sleeping bag and clicked off the light.

“What the heck was that thing? A big ferret? Ha!”

It would be daylight soon and Patrick could play detective further once they struck camp. All the excitement started to finally get to Patrick and he started to close his eyes.
