Patrick looked at the pants leg.

He sniffed it.

It was an animal smell but he couldn’t place it. It sure wasn’t a cat smell. He smelled wet dogs before and it wasn’t a dog.

He cautiously made it back to the tent. If he continued to cry out now, he’d be called a wuss.

He investigated the foot of his sleeping bag. There was a slight tear in the bag. But there was no scent. He examined it closer.

“Whatever had made the rip couldn’t have been anything too big,” he tried to tell himself.

He looked at his jeans. He rolled his pants leg up. Thankfully, his skin wasn’t broken and he wasn’t cut. His pants though were stinky.
